#SpringForLocal #SpringForLunch

OK – enough winter already. Enough of the real winter & just as importantly, enough talking about winter and letting it dictate how we live!

This April, we’re inviting everyone in Halifax to leave their desk at lunch – go for a walk on the boardwalk, grab a coffee or lunch with your friends that you haven’t seen since Christmas and ignore the mighty mounds of snow & ice that are trying to hide our beautiful city. We want you to take that yoga class you’ve always been thinking about. We want you to go buy yourself a new spring dress and wear it – regardless of what Mother Nature is saying. We want you to smile, be adventurous and show our resilience to weather of any sort.

There will be deals, there will be prizes, there will be sun & some days, there will also be weather above the freezing point.

Check out the home page for full listing of deals and promos

If you’re a visual kind of person, then this handy dandy map put together by Halifax ReTales is just what you need.

Above all though, all you really need to know is that Saturday October 4 is a day to park the car, grab some friends and head out to Eat, Shop & Enjoy your way through all the best unique independent businesses that make Halifax awesome. We all work hard everyday to bring you a great experience, but this weekend we’re working even harder to show you what we’re made of.

Be sure to share your finds on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, #CityHarvest – and show everyone how awesome Halifax can be.

If the lineup is too long for food, head into a neighbouring shop.

Sold out of a special? Why not sit down and enjoy something off the regular menu.

Have a bounty of meat & produce from the market? Invite that new neighbour over for a dinner party and crack open some NS craft beer or fabulous NS wines.

Always rushed to do your Christmas shopping? Get a jump on it now with some great deals and while every size & colour is still in stock!

It’s a wonderful time of year in Halifax, come on out & enjoy it with us.

Just one of the exciting happenings at City Harvest!

Oct 1st, 2014

Halifax, NS – Do you want those baskets back? Love Heritage Minutes? Visit ARGYLE FINE ART this weekend and you will find 11 of Canada’s most iconic historical TV-vignettes (plus 2 newer Minutes) interpreted through the creative mind of Halifax-based artist Christopher Hemsworth as commemorative posters.

First released in 1991, Historica Canada’s HERITAGE MINUTES have since become one of the most recognizable and valuable cultural creations for Canada, both historically and in popular culture.

Hemsworth was commissioned to interpret 13 of the Minutes, after his illustrated interpretation of the Halifax Explosion Minute went viral via social media. The selected artwork includes the top 11 Minutes as voted on by Canadians in a nationwide survey conducted by Historica Canada, plus two newer Minutes.

“It is very rewarding to be a part of the Heritage Minutes. They are more than commercials, they are our history, and it’s amazing to see that nostalgia come back through the artwork.”
— Christopher Hemsworth, Artist

All 13 posters will be displayed at Argyle Fine Art on October 4th during I LOVE LOCAL Halifax – CITY HARVEST and with the option to purchase copies signed by the artist.

“We cannot properly know and understand our stories, our history and each other unless we can connect with each other. This is the necessary starting point for everything else.”
— Anthony Wilson-Smith, President, Historica Canada.

Historica Canada is the largest independent organization dedicated to history and citizenship in Canada. Its mandate is to build active and informed citizens through a greater knowledge and appreciation of the history, heritage and stories of Canada.

Christopher Hemsworth is a Halifax-based design consultant, graphic/web designer, artist and illustrator. His work has been shared by millions on social media and featured in WiRED Magazine, The Huffington Post, and Reddit, among others. His popular webcomic Dear Inner Demons can be viewed at and some of his other work can be seen via

One of Halifax’s most progressive galleries, Argyle Fine Art represents a unique variety of contemporary art by established and emerging Canadian artists. Selection includes painting, drawing, limited edition prints, fibre, sculpture and photography.

city-harvest-web-bannerDo you own a business on the peninsula of Halifax, or in Downtown Dartmouth?

Are you a visual artist or musician?

Are you involved with a non-profit that’s doing great work in our Community?

Do you run a museum, gallery or other attraction?

If so, then you don’t want to miss taking part in the 3rd City Harvest event put on by I Love Local HFX.

Happening on Saturday October 4, 2014, this year’s theme is Eat – Shop – Enjoy.

That really shouldn’t take a lot of explaining or arm twisting, but it’s just that simple.

EAT what’s new, fresh and in-season from some of Halifax’s best restaurants and chefs

SHOP the latest fashions of the season, the new home items or maybe get a jump on Christmas shopping at the dozens of great independent shops and boutiques

ENJOY -Whether it’s a walk in the Gardens with a coffee, exploring a neighbourhood for the first time, or just being out with friends & family – we want you to enjoy yourself.

What can your business or organization do to take part in this fantastic day?

Well, you can serve food out your back door if you’re one of our fantastic chefs.

You can run a sale at your business, or just give people a little treat for visiting if you run a store.

You can take your non-profit to the streets and let people know what you do.

or, you can open your museum or gallery doors open to the public for free for the day.

What will we do? Well, we’ll post a huge, gigantic list of things to do, we’ll share everyone’s finds on twitter and we’ll just be as loud as we possibly can.

All you need to do is drop us a line, tell us what you’re offering to the public and we’ll take it from there.

Our new I Love Local HFX brochure is now available!

Hitting the streets just in time for you to plan your City Harvest activities on October 3, this year’s brochure features over 50 of your favourite places to eat, shop & play in Halifax.
